I have been trying not to mix two cereals in my meals since the past few months and i feel much better. i am not sluggish after meals, but light and energetic. Few schools of nutrition particularly natural hygienists recommend a mono cereal diet (if at all you want to have cereals...) i know the staple food of most Indians is roti(bread), vegetables, dal / pulse and rice. So have either wheat or rice. Most of the times its our habit which leads us to stuffing ourselves during meals. So not mixing two cereals puts lesser load on the digestive system at the same time makes available remaining energy to do other work. Experience it yourself.
Happy eating!!!

there are people I have come across- they say if they eat a full meal of a monocereal(as suggested, e.g.,4 chapatis/jowar rotis), a good hunger returns to haunt again in 3.5 hrs. So, they say, variety is a must in their diet.
Now an ayurvedic view: Ayurveda says different ppl. have varying levels of digestive power and assimilation as per their Body Constitution. Ayurveda never advises such strict adherence to monocereal diet.
Probably this advice might suit some very well. But for everyone.... not too sure. Also I'm aware of how purists(Natural Hygienists like Sheldon) highlight the benefits of proper mixing of foods, so as to derive max benefits - at the same time put minimum burden on the digestive system.
So, the correct path to take is not yet clear - Do we need to take a more moderate view on this...?
hi joy, i agree that there are varying opinions on food and that its difficult for us to discern. but a very important point which you have brought out is that different people have different digestive power, requirements etc and so there is no one answer. and i would also agree that moderation is the key to everything. but i have seen that most of the people cant maintain that when it comes to eating and for them restricting (having just one cereal for eg) might work better. and many cant even realise what is moderation for them. complicated!! :-)
